About us
PartsTrader provides a digital marketplace for our customers to make smart collision repair decisions everyday.
But how did we get to where we are today?
Where PartsTrader started
Founded in 2004 by a small group of entrepreneurial consultants in Wellington, PartsTrader allowed NZ automotive trade parts buyers to get multiple confidential quotes from suppliers via an online tendering system. Buyers were able to choose the best combination of price, delivery time, and quality that suited their needs.
There were a few years of ups and downs thanks to the economic downturns, but a passion for espresso coffee and a commitment to grow the platform to be used by a larger portion of the repairers, suppliers and insurers saw the company steadily grow.
In 2010 an opportunity arose to partner with the largest automobile insurer in the United States, to provide a parts procurement process that didn’t favour any one party over any other. It was at this point that the company split into separate entities, with PartsTrader Markets Limited remaining the development company, and PartsTrader NZ and PartsTrader US being set up to manage all market-facing functions.
As the business developed, so did the team. There was something special about the growth however, which saw the emphasis remain shared across creating great software, and creating a great business to work within. This saw many company traditions introduced, such as the Rambo handover shown above.
Where we are today
PartsTrader now operate on a global scale, with the businesses supporting 15,000+ repairers and suppliers. We have grown to provide these customers across both countries with an easy-to-use online marketplace that allows collision repairers to source parts from leading OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) dealers, parts recyclers, and alternative parts suppliers.
With 11+ million parts ordered through the platform, we continue to explore ways to further extend what we offer to our customers through agile research and development, and aspire to be proactive versus reactive to our customers needs.
We continue to explore additional overseas markets, with the vision that PartsTrader will be a global leader in the collision repair value chain.
Most importantly we continue to develop our software and our people.
